Tower Ravens Cricket Club ~ A Brief History

Tower Ravens Cricket Club was formed in 1993 by a group of university friends based in Wapping, East London. With no home ground the Ravens started out as a wandering side, playing Sunday friendlies arranged through the Club Cricket Conference against teams of a similar standard from across the London area.

The Ravens first match took place on Sunday 8th May 1994 with a trip to Raye's Park to play Capricorn C.C.  - a match in which the Ravens started with 10 players and ended with a 120 run defeat. During the first few seasons results (and the number of players) varied, with the Ravens relying heavily upon its strong pace attack for success...and its long tail for failure.

However, with results and player numbers improving, the Ravens started the new Millennuim by hiring its first home ground (South Park, Parsons Green) and by entering the Victoria Park Midweek Community Cricket League in 2001.

The Tower Ravens line up that played Pacific at Wray Crescent on the opening day of the 2002 season.

This proved a successful venture, with the Raven achieving promotion in their debut League season, reaching the League Cup final  and attracting several new players who joined the club as a direct result of our involvement in the League.

The club achieved its greatest success in 2004 by winning the Victoria Park League Championship and followed this success in 2005 by winning the  Division Two Championship.

With improved squad depth and results, the Ravens are set to continue their growth in 2008 by joining the North East London Cricket League. This will mark an exciting first venture into weekend league cricket.
