Ravens Finish 3rd in Victoria Park Community Cricket League

Tower Ravens (98 all out) lost to Island Community (102 for 2) by 5 wickets.

Friday 3rd August 2007

A midweek season that promised much ended in disappointment for the Ravens as defeat against Island Community ended the Ravens faint hopes of winning the League title and set-up a title decider between Island Community and Sky.

The Ravens looked well set for a big score on 72 for 2 after 8 overs, but when Ken fell to a great catch over his shoulder by Tanjeem running backwards in the deep, the momentum changed Island's way.

Another good catch even deeper in the deep by Alamin saw Ian's anchor resistance ended after scoring just 26 from 13 overs and Ravens were soon all out for 98, 3 full overs short of their allocation.

Island's openers put on a steady 25 for the first wicket before Ajmal took a stunning diving catch to dismiss John for 14 but that was the last one they held. Several dropped chances allowed Tanjeem to maintain his required run-a-ball rate and some typical big hitting from Robert meant that when the second wicket fell at 71 at the start of the 12th over, Island only needed 28 more to win.

When the scores were brought level, Robert on 45 not out tried for a winning six to bring up his 50 but his controlled pull shot only produced a boundary four and he ended up on 49 not out, his highest score for Island.

Disappointed Ravens captain Michael Biggs summed up the comfortable win for Island with 14 balls to spare by saying "A terribe batting performance by the Ravens, closing the door on any lingering title hopes. Well done to Island".
